INZ is the sole agency of the NZ Government responsible for migration & entry to NZ. The student visa is required to enter the country to study a course of more than 3 months duration, also the course opted for should be offered by education institutions approved & registered with NZQA. The student is issued a visa for One-year duration which can easily be extended from within New Zealand depending on the further duration of the course.
While studying students can work part-time (20 hours per week) and during breaks they can work full time ie 40 hours per week.
If the program opted for is Level 7 or above, students are eligible to apply for 1 year Post Study Work Search Visa / Graduate Job Search Visa. During this duration, if the student manages to find a job in his area of study, he can apply for a further 2 years work permit (known as Graduate Experience Class Visa).
Generally, for Level 8 students, spouses are allowed to work full time. In special cases (selected programs), even the spouse of students studying Level 7 programs can work full time. In other cases, spouses can accompany the students only on a visitor visa and are not allowed to work.
Tuition fees for international students vary between $22,000 and $32,000 for a bachelor's degree, and between $26,000 and $37,000 for a postgraduate course. However, if you choose a course such as medicine, engineering or veterinary science, your fees are likely to be higher.
You can apply for a visa to work in New Zealand for up to 3 years after you finish your study if you have an acceptable qualification. A Post-study work visa lasts for 1, 2 or 3 years depending on the level of your qualification and where you studied
In recent few years it has become quite difficult to get a PR in New Zealand due to the increasing population of immigrants. For a student who has completed his studies from New Zealand, the first step towards granting of a PR is the 2-year post-study visa. Mark our words, its the first step and not a sure shot way to get the PR. This visa would allow you to hunt for a job and work in the country for 2 years initially.
Business Studies, Social Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science are the generally popular courses, however engineering, medicine and hospitality are also favored because of the job prospects.
There are no age limits to getting a student visa in New Zealand.
